Children's Dentistry

Children's Dental CareSurfers Paradise Dental Centre (SPDC) is committed to providing top quality dental care for children on the Gold Coast … because when it comes to children's dental care, it's never too early to start!

What many parents don't realize is that good oral care, backed by regular dental check-ups for kids, is vital in preventing more long-term dental issues for their children. For instance, did you know that?....

  • The premature loss of a child's 'baby' teeth can lead to loss of space and overcrowding, and orthodontic problems when adult teeth arrive.
  • First teeth assist with jaw development; proper jaw development is essential in ensuring teeth correctly align as children grow to allow for effective biting and chewing.
  • Incorrect teeth alignment can result in speech problems and development delays.
  • Thumb sucking, prolonged use of dummies and a whole range of other child-related activities can cause teeth alignment problems.

At SPDC we take children's oral health very seriously. That's why we go out of our way to ensure your kids have a positive experience at our dental centre right from their very first visit.

Children's DentistryYou should book your child in for their first dental appointment when they are old enough to understand what a visit to the dentist is all about. Ideally, they should have regular dental check ups every 6 to 12 months thereafter, to get on top of any issues (such as decay) that may arise even before they begin school.

On their very first visit, we'll do a thorough examination of your child's teeth, gums and mouth, and offer valuable tips on how you can help look after their teeth and prevent decay.

Sometimes the solution is a simple as good brushing. Other times, we might need to add a fissure sealant to help prevent problems in teeth such as adult molars, which are more prone to decay. Where decay has been found, a filling may be needed to prevent any further damage to the tooth.

Whatever the dental care plan, you'll feel completely confident knowing it's in the best interest of your child's health and wellbeing, not just for now but for well into their future.

Our friendly team at SPDC is here to help you however we can. If you do have any concerns regarding your child's oral health, feel free to discuss these with us.
