Oral Cancer Screen and Examination

Oral cancer checkup

With oral cancer such a prevalent form of cancer today, our dentists at Surfers Paradise Dental Centre regularly inspect for the potentially deadly condition.

It's common for oral cancer to first appear as a lesion in the mouth, throat or on the lips. Smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, age and genetics have all been linked as risk factors.  But like most cancers, if detected in its early stages, it's often curable.

At SPDC, our expert dentists conduct visual screenings for oral cancer, as well as other abnormalities of the mouth, at all initial examinations and during each subsequent check-up.

With their trained eyes, our dentists carefully examine the lining of the cheeks, gums, roof of the mouth, tongue, lips and throat for any abnormalities.  If there are suspicious looking spots, they'll conduct further testing, perhaps a biopsy, and/or act on it with a referral to a specialist in oral cancer.

If you do have any concerns, call Surfers Paradise Dental Centre on (07) 5597 2100 so we can organise for a closer look.
